The same laws that govern the natural world also govern our bodies. We humans are a microcosm of the cosmos. By keenly observing the inherent balance and harmony present in our outer ecology, TCM offers insights into how our internal lives—including our organs, physiological functions, and psychological well-being—exist and operate in symbiotic relationship.
When our Qi—vital life-force energy—flows smoothly throughout the body and our Yin and Yang maintain perfect dynamic balance, our organ systems communicate effectively and work together harmoniously as one. In this state, our bodies function optimally, and health prevails.
Conversely, when our internal world is thrown out of balance—due to factors such as physical injury, emotional trauma, an invasion of external pathogens, or other inherited or unknown reasons—the body responds to this imbalance. This disruption creates a kink in the chain of our body’s interconnected functioning. When Qi cannot move freely, resulting in a dis-ease of flow, “disease” ultimately manifests.
The primary goal of TCM is to restore the body’s inherent balance and harmony, allowing wellness to flourish naturally. This is primarily achieved through acupuncture, which activates specific energy centers along meridians in the body. Additional traditional tools such as herbal therapy, Tui Na, nutrition, cupping, and moxibustion may also be employed to help restore balance.
